Swim For Life

Cheer on the swimmers or participate in the annual Maryland Swim For Life to Benefit People with AIDS Saturday at the Hammerman Area of Gunpowder Falls State Park. Pledges will be collected by swimmers to help fight the spread of AIDS and support those living with the disease. Participants can either compete or simply swim in a 1.2- or 2.2-nautical-mile stretch. Younger swimmers can choose to swim shorter distances.

There will be breakfast, a picnic lunch, prizes and entertainment for everyone. Swimmers 18 and older must raise at least $80, and those younger than 18 must raise $40. Pledge checks should be made out to Swim For Life. Proceeds benefit the PWA/HIV Coalition of Baltimore, the Quality of Life Retreat program, STAR (Sisters Together and Reaching) and the Eastern Shore AIDS Foundation.

The swim site at Gunpowder Falls State Park is on Graces Quarters Road in Chase. The opening ceremony starts at 9 a.m. Call Maryland Swim For Life at 410-243-4418.
