Attempted-murder charge dropped after victim changes his story 4 times

June 17, 1998

Anne Arundel County prosecutors dropped attempted-murder and related charges yesterday against a Severn man after the stabbing victim changed his story four times and no witnesses consistently corroborated his accounts.

"They can't proceed when they don't have any credible evidence," said Nancy M. Cohen, the assistant public defender representing Paul E. Turner, 23, of the 1800 block of Arwell Court.

Turner was charged with stabbing Delonte D. Morsell, 22, of the 1900 block of Arwell Court in a fight Aug. 11.

The trial was postponed four times as Morsell changed his story and witnesses gave accounts that were closer to Turner's description of self-defense.

Police were called to Morsell's house about 3: 30 a.m. and found him in the living room with stab wounds.
