Carroll athletes participate in Special Olympics

June 15, 1998

A number of Carroll County youths participated in the 1998 Special Olympics Summer Games held June 5-7 at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Local athletes and their awards were:

Stephanie Carpegna: standing long jump, first place; 400-meter dash and softball throw, second place.

Ralph Gemmill: working trails, first place; English equitation and team relays, second place.

Danny Klein: softball throw, first place; running long jump, second place.

Shawn Reiter: running long jump, first place.

Megan Skelly: 100-meter dash, first place; 50-meter dash and standing long jump, second place.

Joshua Smith: working trails, first place; team relays, fourth place.

Erin Strevig: English equitation and working trails, first place.

Ann Sturgeon: 25-meter backstroke, first place; 25-meter freestyle, second place.

Chuck Toth: English equitation and working trails, second place; team relays, fourth place.

Bruce Watt: dressage, English equitation and working trails, first place.

Carrie Billings: team relays, second place; English equitation, fourth place.

Ray Clark: shot put, second place; 50-meter dash, third place.

Tori Eshelman: 50-meter freestyle, second place; 25-meter backstroke, third place.

John Sollers: 200-meter dash, second place.

Jeannine Taylor: standing long jump, second place; 50-meter dash and softball throw, third place.

Megan Roland: dressage and English equitation, third place; working trails, fourth place.

Keith Wolfe: standing long jump, third place.

Jason Sheets: standing long jump, third place.

Jennifer Doyle: 50-meter freestyle, third place.

Nickolas Graybeal: running long jump and softball throw, third place.

Adam Dunn: English equitation and team relays, fourth place.

Amy Dietrich: team relays, fourth place.
