County police arrest two on drug charges

Two men have been arrested by Howard County police in separate incidents involving heroin.

A West Friendship man, who was being investigated by police, was followed by Howard County narcotics detectives to Baltimore, where he was seen buying drugs, said Lt. Tim Branning, who heads the department's vice and narcotics unit.

The man drove back to Howard County and was arrested about 2: 30 p.m. Thursday in Ellicott City, Branning said.

Ryan Matthew Spitzer, 22, of the 2600 block of Wynfield Road in West Friendship was charged with possession and intent to distribute heroin, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, Branning said.

Police seized five bags of heroin and Spitzer's car, Branning said.

Robert Allen Styers, 19, of the 3900 block of Dustin Road in Burtonsville, who was also being investigated by police, was arrested by undercover detectives in Fulton about 4: 30 p.m. Thursday, Branning said. He was charged with possession of and intent to distribute heroin.

Police recovered 11 bags of heroin and seized the man's van, Branning said.
