Hopkins lab appoints leader for submarine technology

Dan Tyler has been named head of the Submarine Technology Department at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel. Tyler was associate department head for the past four years and has been involved in submarine work since joining the laboratory in 1970. He is a member of the APL's principal professional staff, the laboratory's highest professional classification.

The Applied Physics Laboratory is a not-for-profit laboratory and independent division of the Johns Hopkins University. APL conducts research and development primarily for national security and for nondefense projects of national and global significance. Bank offers businesses free software for access

The Columbia Bank has announced the availability of a new product to allow businesses to perform banking functions from their personal computers. Called "Ready Access PC Banking -- Business Banking Edition," the software is available for free from any of the Columbia Bank's 13 locations in Baltimore City and Baltimore and Howard counties.

Businesses may view a free demonstration of the computer software by logging onto the Columbia Bank's Web site at www.columbank.com. The software is also available to companies that call the Bank's Express Service line at 1-888-TCB BANK (1-888-822-2265).

Computer Solutions links with GTE Communications

Computer Solutions GSD Inc. announces its recent appointment as an authorized representative of GTE Communications Corp.

Home care group hires Paragon Computer Services

Paragon Computer Services Inc., a systems integration/technology consulting firm based in Ellicott City, has been selected to provide strategic technology consulting services to Johns Hopkins Home Care Group.

Kevin P. Huffman has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of CFBank, the Howard County-based community bank with more than $150 million in assets.

Jenny Wellschlager has joined IMPACT Marketing and Public Relations Inc. as public relations manager. Her duties will include the management of public relations campaigns, media relations, the coordination of promotional tie-ins and events, and general client service.
