NASCAR may add Fla., Mo. races

June 07, 1998|By CHARLOTTE OBSERVER

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Winston Cup schedule is likely to increase from 33 to 34 races next season with a race being added at Homestead (Fla.) Motorsports Complex, a NASCAR source said yesterday.

Another race is likely to be added to the schedule at a new motorsports facility in Kansas City, Mo., in the year 2000, the source said. To keep the schedule from growing any further, the spring race at Darlington, S.C., would be dropped from the Winston Cup schedule.

The race next season at Homestead likely will appear on the schedule where the Atlanta spring race was held this season -- in early March -- and the Atlanta spring race will be moved one week later.
