Braves update

Last June, this was the most highly anticipated series during the first weekend of interleague play. Alas, the series represented a crest instead of a predictor -- neither team reached the World Series. While the Orioles are struggling to reach .500 this season, the Braves are 42-18. The Braves rank behind the New York Mets in pitching but have outscored opponents 329-213. No other NL team has more than a 61-run edge. The Braves lead the league in hitting and fielding. An Orioles castoff, Ozzie Guillen has batted some leadoff for the Braves and has started the last five games at shortstop. Third baseman Chipper Jones is hitting at least .330 from both sides of the plate. Center fielder Andruw Jones is 15-for-36 in his past 16 games. Acquiring free-agent first baseman Andres Galarraga has transformed the Braves from a team solely reliant on left-handed power. John Smoltz remains on the disabled list with an inflamed right elbow.
