Festival to mark church's 125th anniversary

SOLLEY UNITED Methodist Church, 7600 Solley Road, will hold its annual strawberry festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Church spokeswoman Margaret Phelps said the event serves as a social affair for the old and growing community. John Mason is in charge of food arrangements again this year.

Congregation members will serve sweet, ruby-red strawberries over homemade cake with ice cream and a drink for $3.50. Child-sized servings, for those under 12, are $2. Carryout will be available.

For those who want a little dinner with their dessert, church members will have beef barbecue, crab soup and hot dogs.

The church, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary, will have historical items on display. Commemorative anniversary items also will be on sale.

Berries and entertainment

Stop by Community United Methodist Church, 8680 Fort Smallwood Road, for food, fun and entertainment during its annual strawberry festival from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 6.

Mouth-watering strawberries will be served with ice cream and cake.

Crab cakes, fried chicken, hot dogs and refreshments also will be on sale.

A carnival area, with games and prizes, will keep the kids busy.

Treasure hunters can scout the white elephant table for deals, and the handiwork of church members will be on sale at the craft and bake tables.

Local performing groups and community organizations, including the Pasadena Kadettes, the Dance Explosion troupe, and square dancers from Pasadena Twirlers will entertain.

In addition, county police will put on a K-9 demonstration and explain their "Stop Thief" anti-auto theft program, and equipment from the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company will be on display. Equipment to fingerprint children will be available.

Democrats plan open house

The Stoney Creek Democratic Club, 8123 Fort Smallwood Road, is having an open house at 8 p.m. Wednesday to meet and greet Democratic officeholders.

The club also is sponsoring a dinner-bingo June 7 at the clubhouse. Admission is $20 and includes dinner and 20 regular games with a guaranteed jackpot of $400. The doors will open at noon with games starting at 1 p.m.

Longaberger basket bingo

The auxiliary of Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company is sponsoring a Longaberger basket bingo from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. June 14 at the fire hall on Mountain Road at Lake Shore Drive.

L The doors will open at noon for hungry players to buy lunch.

Cards for an afternoon of 20 regular games and four special games is $15.

The winners will take home beautiful, handcrafted baskets.

Smoking and nonsmoking sections will be available.
