Rangers: Shortstop Kevin Elster left the game after the second because of muscle spasms in his lower back. He was replaced by Domingo Cedeno. Ivan Rodriguez's errorless streak came to an end at 61 games.

Twins: Will Clark's fifth-inning double snapped an 0-for-16 hitless streak. The Rangers started the day hitting .372 against left-handers.

White Sox: Chicago has reached a tentative agreement with left-handed pitcher Jim Abbott on a minor-league contract. Abbott has not pitched in the majors since 1996, when he went 2-18 for the Angels.
