Rangers update

The Rangers are off to the best start in franchise history, 31-19. The Rangers rank first in the AL in hitting (.299) and third in fielding (28 errors). Of their 13 active position players, seven are batting .300 or better. The AL West leaders have cooled a bit since outscoring the Orioles 25-21 in a three-game series at The Ballpark last month. Three of their past four wins have come after rallying from at least three runs down. The Orioles lost two of three in Arlington April 17-19 despite batting .330. Texas pounded them for 41 hits. In that series Orioles starters survived only 11 1/3 innings, coughing up 26 hits and 18 earned runs. Right fielder Juan Gonzalez has mashed 62 RBIs and 31 extra-base hits. Doug Johns beware. The Rangers have a .372 average against left-handers in 376 at-bats.
