B.B. King

Listen to the legendary B.B. King when he participates in "Waterside '98" Saturday at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons. During the past five decades, the King of Blues has released more than 50 albums, won seven Grammy Awards, was inducted into three halls of fame, received three lifetime achievement awards and has been Guitar Player's guitarist of the year for five consecutive years. Saturday's concert commemorates the grand opening of the Washington Gas Pavilion, an outdoor venue on the museum grounds. Primitive Mind opens the show.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the museum, 14200 Solomon's Island Road. Tickets are $40 for premium seating and $22 for the gravel area (take a chair), and are available at the Museum Store or through phone charge at 800-787-9450. Call the Waterside hot line at 410-394-0879. Experience the 18th annual Herndon Festival, one of Northern Virginia's top outdoor events, today through Sunday. Carnival rides open tonight and the popular Beatlemania Live! will perform. Tomorrow, the TGIF Party begins at 5 p.m., featuring country performers Exile and the regional group Razin' Kane. Saturday and Sunday festivities include more than two dozen food vendors, a business expo, an arts and crafts show and entertainers (including Eddie from Ohio and the Platters) performing on three stages. Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday night, and Starship, a supergroup of the '70s and '80s, will close the event on Sunday.

The festival takes place in and around downtown Herndon's Municipal Center complex and historic Town Hall Square. Festival hours are 6:30 to 10 p.m. today; 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information and a complete schedule, call 703-435-6868.
