The Columbia Association is moving its membership services division from the mall to its headquarters along Lake Kittamaqundi in Town Center.

In mid-July, the 12-member staff will move into a $180,000 renovated space in the CA building on Wincopin Circle.

The division -- whose services range from selling memberships in the CA's athletic clubs to handing out discount movie tickets -- will be next to the CA Welcome Center, which promotes James W. Rouse's planned community.

"There is a synergy that happens when you put the Welcome Center and membership services in the same building," said Rob Goldman, vice president of membership services.

"A lot of people come to the Welcome Center to learn about Columbia and say they want to become members of the clubs and then we have to send them to the mall. This will put everything in one spot," he said.

This summer, parking around Town Center will be difficult during construction of a 280-space parking garage on Wincopin Circle. The work -- expected to be completed by September -- has closed the lot in front of the CA building and the American City building on Wincopin Circle.

Goldman said there are short-term parking spaces between the CA building and the American City building.

In addition, Clyde's bar and restaurant, along Lake Kittamaqundi, is offering valet parking during the construction.

Goldman said CA will have a staff member directing people to the membership services area, which also sells tickets for events in Columbia. The membership services staff will be moved by July 13, he said.
