Bus overturns during field trip, injuring 12 students, teacher

Twelve students and a teacher from Great Mills High School in Leonardtown were injured yesterday when a school bus overturned in a ditch about 9 a.m. on southbound Route 5 near Scotland, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department reported.

Ten students and a teacher suffered minor injuries and were treated at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown and released, said a hospital spokeswoman.

Two female students were taken by helicopter to Childrens Hospital in Washington, where one was treated and released and the other admitted in stable condition, said a hospital spokesman.
