Hot corner

Quote: "You get booed so much on the road. I don't know who's up: [Wilfredo] Cordero, Albert [Belle] or, now, [Chad] Kreuter." -- White Sox manager Jerry Manuel, who professed not to notice the icy reception received by Cordero in Boston on Tuesday night.

It's a fact: Former Blue Jays starter Dave Stieb lost his fourth game in his comeback attempt with Triple-A Syracuse last night. He has one win.

Who's hot: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has a 15-game hitting streak.

Who's not: The Mariners' Randy Johnson has an ERA of 6.93, his highest (with the exception of his first two starts in any season) since April 20, 1989, while a member of the Montreal Expos.

On deck: Angels right-hander Jack McDowell, on the disabled list since April 27 because of an inflamed elbow, will replace Jason Dickson in the starting rotation. McDowell (1-2) will face Blake Stein (1-1) tonight.
