Sykesville buys commercial-grade garden tractor

May 20, 1998

A new garden tractor will be mowing open spaces in Sykesville soon.

The town ordered a $10,089 -diesel-powered mower from Kings Town, a Chestertown tractor dealer. The Town Council approved the purchase last week and expects delivery soon.

"We decided we had to go to a commercial-grade tractor," said Matthew H. Candland, town manager. "We had been buying the homeowner models, and they just don't hold up more than two or three years."

In the growing season, town crews often mow eight hours nearly every weekday.

Fire

Sykesville: Firefighters responded at 6: 57 p.m. Monday to a fire alarm in the 800 block of Sandosky Road. Units were out three minutes.
