Atholton's softball team has forfeited all its regular-season victories, meaning River Hill is the outright county champion.

Atholton lost to River Hill, 16-3, early in the season but the Raiders surprised the Hawks, 6-4, on May 4. That late-season loss created a tie for first place between River Hill and Glenelg with 14-3 records.

Now, River Hill is 15-2 and the second-year Hawks have the county trophy all to themselves.

Atholton athletic director Pat Saunderson reported the violation Thursday. In a prepared statement, Saunderson said: "A student on our varsity softball team had been enrolled as an out-of-district JROTC student. However, she dropped out of the JROTC program and did not sit out for one year. When we became aware of this situation, we automatically reported the violation to [Coordinator of Athletics] Don Disney and [Administrative Coordinator K-12] Gene Streagle. The player was removed from the team before the first game of the regional playoffs."

Here are the revised county standings: River Hill 15-2, Glenelg 14-3, Howard 12-4, Wilde Lake 12-5, Centennial 11-6, Long Reach 10-8, Hammond 5-12, Mount Hebron 3-14, Oakland Mills 3-13, Atholton 0-18.
