MAY IS the time for a changing of the guard at area high schools. Seniors have been busy with proms, college planning and preparation for graduation. Caps and gowns are ready. Yearbooks will be distributed soon. Final editions of school newspapers are almost ready for printing.

Just a few more days of school and one last set of exams, and the seniors will pass on leadership roles to juniors. In some organizations, this transition has already taken place.

At Arundel High School Key Club's recent award banquet, President Chris Wilhelmi transferred his gavel to Sheena Washington, marking the start of a new year for the club. The Crofton Kiwanis organization presented Chris with a college scholarship in recognition of his service to the club throughout high school.

Pastor to retire

After 30 years as pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. James Stillwell will retire at the end of the month. During the past few months, several groups have honored him for his community efforts over the years. On May 31, Stillwell will preside over his final service at St. Paul's. More than 300 current and former members of the parish are expected to gather at the Crofton Country Club afterward for a farewell brunch.

The Rev. Chris Holmes of Community United Methodist Church will be the keynote speaker.

The brunch will be held at the Crofton Country Club from 11: 30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets may be obtained until Saturday by calling 410-672-7166. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 10.
