Hot corner

May 17, 1998

Quote: "The way I've been swinging, I felt like a jerk." -- Indians' Brian Giles, who had been in a 1-for-26 slide before hitting a homer on consecutive at-bats (last at-bat Friday and first yesterday).

It's a fact: Yesterday was the 59th anniversary of Cleveland being host to the AL's first night game, against the Philadelphia Athletics.

Who's hot: Seattle's Alex Rodriguez, who hit two homers against the Blue Jays, now has 15, tying him with teammate Ken Griffey for the AL lead.

Who's not: Yankees' Chuck Knoblauch made a pair of throwing errors against his former team, the Twins. Knoblauch was 1-for-4 and is 5-for-22 (.227) against Minnesota.

On deck: In Toronto today, the Blue Jays' Erik Hanson, who missed nearly all of last season with shoulder problems, goes for his first win since Sept. 23, 1996.
