Carroll tournament scheduled again today Tennis

Rain forced a fourth postponement of the Carroll County tennis tournament yesterday. Officials said they will try to squeeze the entire 60-match tournament, which usually takes place over two days, into one day today.

John Lynam of North Carroll, who runs this year's tournament, said officials will try to start play at 9 a.m. on 10 different courts at three locations, including the high school. If they can begin at 9, Lynam is optimistic the tournament can finish by darkness.

If the courts aren't playable or the weather still problematic, Lynam said they'll shoot for a noon start, which likely means the tournament would stretch into tomorrow. That causes more problems because the region tournament is set for Friday and Saturday at North and South Hagerstown High Schools.

The format also has been altered somewhat. A six-game set will be used in the first round with a 10-game set in the second round and best-of-three set format for the semifinals and finals.

The tournament was originally scheduled for last Friday and Saturday but the rain has washed it out ever since.
