Girl, 3, in foster home as police seek parents

May 13, 1998|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A 3-year-old girl was in a Baltimore County foster home last night while police tried to find her parents, who allowed a Cockeysville couple to keep her overnight Monday but failed to pick her up yesterday.

Officer Mark Carter of the Cockeysville Precinct said he had received information last night that might lead to the parents of the girl, whose name is Shakira but whose last name is not known. He said a hearing will be held today in Juvenile Court to determine the child's status.

Carter said the Cockeysville couple did not get the names of Shakira's parents, whom they got to know during several meetings at Lexington Market in Baltimore. He said the couple went to the market yesterday to return the girl but that her parents did not show up.
