5-year-old boy killed when he dashes into road

A 5-year-old boy was killed in North Baltimore yesterday when he ran into the path of a van, police reported.

The child was waiting to cross Belvedere Avenue with his 16-year-old sister about 3: 45 p.m. when he broke free from her and ran across the intersection at York Road, police said.

The boy, whose name was not released last night, suffered head and torso injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4: 36 p.m., police said.

The driver of the van is not expected to face charges, police said.
