Quote: "I can't ask for anything more. Anytime you get off to a good start, it helps you relax. -- Mets' Preston Wilson, stepson of first base coach Mookie Wilson, on his major-league debut. The two are the first father-son combination to ever play for the team.

It's a fact: Despite a second straight loss, San Diego (22-11) is off to its best start in franchise history after 33 games.

Who's hot: Atlanta, which has won nine of 10, is off to its best start after 34 games -- 24-10 -- since 1969.

Who's not: St. Louis' Mark McGwire went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts last night in New York. He has had 22 plate appearances since hitting the 399th homer of his career last Friday. And, he's 1-for-12 in three games at Shea.

On deck: Shortstop Ozzie Guillen, released last week by the Orioles and signed Wednesday by the Braves, arrived and is available for tonight's game against San Diego.
