Fire hydrant flushing to discolor Westminster water

May 08, 1998

The Westminster Department of Public Works will flush fire hydrants from 8 p.m. to midnight Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays this month.

Affected areas next week are West Main Street area, including Marbeth Hill; Westmoreland and Chase streets; Rudge and Sunset avenues; Old New Windsor Road; Bond, Liberty and George streets; The Greens; and Eagleview Estates.

The hydrant flushing will cause some discoloration of water, so residents should not do laundry the next day. Faucets should be opened in the morning to run until the water is clear.

Residents should draw water the night before to get them through until the next morning. Water is still fully treated and safe to drink.

Students plan silent auction and bingo to finance trip

The Carroll County Student Ambassadors, who represent the public schools, are holding basket bingo and a silent auction from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. May 16 at the Westminster Fire Hall.

Longaberger baskets will be featured. Tickets are $10, available in advance and at the door.

Proceeds will benefit the group's trip to Australia this summer.

The fire hall is at 66 E. Main St. Information: 410-635-2905.
