Shots fired after fight near gym in Pasadena

May 08, 1998

Several gunshots were fired among a group of people last night outside Chesapeake High School in Pasadena after a fight broke out during a pickup basketball game in the school gym, county police said.

No injuries were reported after at least two shots were fired into the air, police said.

The brawl -- involving dozens of players and spectators -- spilled into the parking lot shortly after 8 p.m.

Police Sgt. Edward P. Bergin said two vehicles were stopped and two men taken into custody for questioning. He said police also sought two Baltimore men believed to have a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun. Two shell casings were recovered, police said.

Bergin said the police had reports of earlier trouble at the school on Mountain Road, which opens its gymnasium for basketball games some weeknights.
