BellSouth Classic

Site: Duluth, Ga.

Schedule: Today through Sunday.

Course: TPC at Sugarloaf (7,259 yards, par 72).

Purse: $1.8 million.

Winner's share: $324,000.

TV: CBS (Saturday, 4-6 p.m.; Sunday, 3-6 p.m.).

Last year: Scott McCarron won his second tour title, finishing with a 3-under 69 for a three-stroke victory over former Georgia Tech star David Duval, Lee Janzen and Brian Henninger. McCarron had a 14-under 274 total.

Last week: Duval edged Jeff Maggert by a stroke in the Houston Open, closing with an 8-under 64 for a 14-under 274 total.

Skinny: Tiger Woods, making his first start since the Masters, is winless in 15 PGA Tour events since the Western Open in July, and has not broken 70 in his past 11 rounds. Davis Love won his past two tournaments, the MCI Classic and the Japan PGA's Chunichi Crowns. Senior star Hale Irwin is making his first regular-tour start of the year. Greg Norman, sidelined by a shoulder injury, designed the TPC at Sugarloaf.

Sara Lee Classic

Site: Nashville, Tenn.

Schedule: Tomorrow through Sunday.

Course: Hermitage Golf Course (6,290 yards, par 72).

Purse: $750,000.

Winner's share: $112,500.

TV: None.

Last year: Terry-Jo Myers won with a par on the fifth hole of a playoff with Laurel Kean.

Last week: Danielle Ammaccapane won the Titleholders Championship at Daytona Beach, Fla., closing with a 1-under 71 for a one-stroke victory over Michelle Estill.

Skinny: Annika Sorenstam finished third last week, her seventh top-seven finish of the year without a victory. A Swedish star, she led the tour last year with six victories and record earnings of $1,236,769. Michelle McGann won the 1995 tournament for the first of her seven tour victories. She had a record 14-under 202 total.

Course: TPC at Piper Glen (6,774 yards, par 72).

Purse: $1.1 million.

Winner's share: $165,000.

TV: ESPN (Tomorrow, 3-5 p.m.; Saturday, 5-7 p.m.; Sunday, 2: 30-4 p.m.).

Last year: Jim Dent won with a birdie on the second hole of a playoff with Lee Trevino.

Last week: Hubert Green won the Bruno's Memorial Classic at Hoover, Ala., for his first senior title. Green, a 19-time PGA Tour winner, closed with an 8-under 64 for a 13-under 203 total. Hale Irwin finished a stroke back.

Skinny: Irwin, a three-time winner this year who tops the money list with $1,051,850, is skipping the tournament to play in the PGA Tour's BellSouth Classic. Arnold Palmer designed the TPC at Piper Glen.
