Mount Airy teen-ager injured when her car skids into tree

A Mount Airy teen-ager was injured Tuesday evening when her car skidded off a county road near Winfield and struck a large tree, state police said.

Christina L. Samuel, 16, of the 700 block of S. Main St. was taken by state MedEvac helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she was in serious but stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.

Investigators said Samuel was traveling west on Buckhorn Road near Stone House Village Court when the accident occurred at 9: 37 p.m.

Mrs. Carroll County places second in state pageant

Kelli Kemp of Westminster, Mrs. Carroll County for 1998, was chosen first runner-up at the Mrs. Maryland International Pageant Saturday at the Avalon Theater in Easton.

Kemp also received the Mrs. Congeniality title and community service award and won honors for selling the most ads for the program book.

Contestants were judged on how they combined a career with being a wife and mother. Kemp is a part-time receptionist for O'Conor, Piper & Flynn Realtors in Westminster and a licensed social worker and consultant for Adult Medical Day Care.

She was interviewed by the judges, modeled aerobic wear to demonstrated her physical fitness, modeled in an evening gown and outlined a proposal for long-term care planning.

Kemp lives with her husband, Brian, and son Nicolas. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Riley of Eldersburg.

Police

Westminster: An East Main Street resident told police Tuesday that four sets of keys and a 1989 Dodge Ram truck parked outside his home were stolen. The loss was estimated at $4,510.
