This year's Preakness Celebration includes a series of exciting events for children.

The fun begins on Tuesday at noon, when Baltimore kids ages 3 to 5 will race wooden hobby horses for candy and prizes in the 12th Annual Pee Wee Preakness at Federal Hill Park across from Rash Field. Children will also enjoy games of skill, arts and crafts and temporary tattoos. Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke will present this free event, and mascots from area attractions and restaurants will join in the festivities. Call 410-837-4636 for more information.

Area "frogs" will see who can jump the farthest in the Preakness Frog Hop at Patterson Park Recreation Center, as children hop-hop-hop to the fun at noon on Wednesday. Call 410-396-9177. Free.

Kids can eat their hearts out at the Twelfth Annual Lee's Ice Cream Banana Split Stakes, dubbed "the chilliest, as well as messiest, eating contest in Baltimore." Spoons will be provided as participants put their sweet tooth to the test at the Harborplace Amphitheatre. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest sundae eaters. Dig in at noon on Wednesday. Free. Call 410-332-4191.
