Red Sox: Steve Avery pitched three innings and gave up three earned runs in his second start at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Royals: Jose Offerman had a terrible night running the bases. He was thrown out trying to steal third after doubling in the first inning. In the fourth, he was on first when Hal Morris singled and got thrown out after rounding second too far, eventually costing the team a run. Kansas City has only two runs in 11 games against left-handed starters.

Twins: Paul Molitor was 9-for-55 before his single in the first.

Yankees: New York starters are 14-1. New York hasn't won a season series at The Ballpark in Arlington since it opened in 1994. New York is 15-0 in games in which it homers.
