Erin Kortecamp scored six goals, two in overtime, and the Glenelg defense, led by goalie Beth Bettien and Stephanie Lewis, held River Hill to one goal in the extra period as the Gladiators prevailed, 8-6, in girls lacrosse on a rain-soaked field at River Hill.

The victory moves Glenelg into a three-way tie for third place with River Hill and Hammond in the regular-season standings. The three teams finished 6-3 in the league, and trailed Mount Hebron (9-0) and Centennial (8-1).

The last regular-season county game is today when Howard plays host to Oakland Mills.

Kortecamp scored her team's first four goals. Glenelg led 3-2 at halftime and 4-2 with 11: 26 to play. River Hill tied it with goals from Shannon Binns and Kelsey Cronin. Rachel Ford put Glenelg ahead, 5-4, with 6: 12 to play, but Amy Willis, from an assist from Jessie Goertler, tied it with just under two minutes remaining.

River Hill took a 6-5 lead on Tara Boyle's goal 12 seconds into overtime. Kortecamp tied the game, then put Glenelg ahead to stay with 2: 21 remaining. Chrissy Mills scored 22 seconds later for the final margin.

Glenelg coach Ginger Kincaid praised her entire team, and said of Kortecamp: "She's a go-to person. She's the one I want to have the ball in an important situation."

Said Kincaid of Bettien (14 saves): "She had a great game. She stepped up big every time we needed her to."

River Hill coach Becky Albert said: "I'm disappointed with the loss, but proud of the girls. They played tough and never gave up."

Hawks goalie Carly Jones (13 saves) also had an excellent game.
