Harford man is sentenced to 18 months after assault

May 06, 1998

A Harford County man was sentenced yesterday to 18 months in the Carroll County Detention Center after he pleaded guilty to threatening his former girlfriend and an Eldersburg man with a 7-inch knife in December.

Timothy S. Howell, 32, of Perryville received concurrent seven-year prison sentences for two counts of second-degree assault, but Circuit Judge Francis M. Arnold suspended all but 18 months and ordered him to have no contact with the victims, Crystal D. Dennison and Christopher J. Watson.

Prosecutors said Watson was holding a party at his home in the 900 block of Klee Mill Road in Eldersburg on Dec. 6 when Howell became intoxicated and argued with Dennison, threatening to kill her and slash everyone at the party.

Watson tried to calm Howell but was similarly threatened. He called state police at about 11: 45 p.m., according to court records.

Howell ran into a nearby woods before troopers arrived but was found asleep in Dennison's car and arrested at 1: 20 a.m.
