Ceremony tomorrow to pay tribute to 2 corrections officers

As part of National Correctional Employees week, two officers at the state's "Supermax" prison facility will be honored at a ceremony tomorrow.

Officers Weldon Watkins, who pursued an inmate trying to escape from the prison, and Sharon Washington, who helped an injured colleague to safety during a prison riot May 7, 1997, will be recognized by Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Stuart O. Simms, secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in Blob's Park.
