ABL: Signed F-C Chasity Melvin.

New England: Blizzard coach K.C. Jones, 65, had angioplasty surgery to clear an artery that was about 70 percent blocked.

Chattanooga: Hired Wes Moore as women's basketball coach.

Clemson: Hired Scott Duncan, Darren Tillis, Matthew Driscoll, Bruce Martin and Anthony Solomon as assistant men's basketball coaches.

Florida: Announced resignation of Kim Haddow, women's golf coach.

Miami (Fla.): Announced RB Dyral McMillan will transfer to South Florida.

Oklahoma: Hired Joe Castiglione, 40, athletic director at Missouri, as AD, replacing former Sooners Heisman winner Steve Owens, who resigned in March.

Football

Buccaneers: Signed Rick McKay, general manager, to a five-year contract extension, through the 2002 season.

Saints: Signed unrestricted free-agent WR Sean Dawkins, who had been with the Indianapolis Colts, to a one-year contract.

Hockey

Hurricanes: Signed D Glen Wesley to a five-year contract.

Penguins: Recalled F Brian Bonin, F Jan Hrdina and D Sven Butenschon from AHL Syracuse.

Soccer

MLS: Announced the Aug. 2, 1998 All-Star game will be in Orlando, Fla., at the Citrus Bowl, and will have the best Americans take on the top international players. It will be the first time the event will be held in a city without an MLS franchise. Also, announced the 1999 game will be held in San Diego on July 17 at Qualcomm Stadium.

Tampa Bay: Signed MF Marcelo Ramos.
