The Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company burned the mortgage on its building at its annual banquet last month at the fire hall and honored those who helped pay off the debt.
The company broke ground for the building at 2030 S. Pleasant Valley Road on May 2, 1982.
The fire department has had help from the Ladies Auxiliary, which has donated more than $400,000 since 1981. Recognized were past presidents Donna Geiman, Barbara Davis, Brenda Hay, Angie Becker and Kim Thomas.
Also honored was Richard Smith, chairman of the building committee and general contractor for the project. He is now maintenance committee chairman.
Past presidents of the company since 1982 who were recognized were Charles Miller, David Bowersox and Michael Stewart. At the beginning of the project, C. Oscar Baker was fire service coordinator and helped with loan negotiations with the county.
Other members of the building committee, in addition to Miller and Stewart, who were recognized were John Means Sr., John Baker, Robert Smith, Donald Bowersox, Stephen Wantz and James Wantz.
Lou Scharon, president of the Carroll County Commissioners in 1982, conducted the ceremonial burning of the mortgage.
The company also installed new officers for 1998.
Administrative officers are: Jack Wagner, president; Mike Swartzbaugh, vice president; Randy Stair, secretary; Glenn Hay, treasurer; and John Means Sr., Richard Smith, Robert Smith, Stephen Wantz and David Warehime, board of directors.
Fire line officers are: William Wantz, fire chief; Michael Gist, assistant chief; Stephen Wantz, captain; Karl Wantz, first lieutenant; John Royer Jr., second lieutenant; Robert Fogle, third lieutenant; Forrest Shaw, fourth lieutenant; Richard Harman Sr., fire police captain; and Fred Hooper, fire police lieutenant.
Ambulance officers are: Jeffrey Schaffer, captain; Charles Velte, first lieutenant; Charles Lookingbill, second lieutenant; Charles Lee, third lieutenant.
Foremen of apparatus are: Joseph Davis, Engine 61; Karl Wantz, Engine 62; Daniel Leister, Engine 64; Forrest Shaw, Brush 66; James Swartzbaugh III, Utility 6; Charles Lee, Ambulance 69; and Robert Smith, Tractor 6.
Ladies Auxiliary officers are: Kimberly Thomas, president; Helen Clarson, vice president; Sherry Sipes, secretary, and Joyce Davis, assistant; Donna Geiman, treasurer, and Barbara Miller, assistant; Caroline Leister, chaplain, and Carolyn Smith, assistant; and Barbara Davis, historian.
Junior Fire Company officers are: Scott Wagner, president; Jaime Eyler, secretary; and Gregory Stewart, treasurer.
