The Anne Arundel County Public School District has awarded TeleCommunication Systems Inc. of Annapolis a telephone services contract worth up to $1.1 million.
The contract calls for TCS to provide, install and maintain Lucent Technologies Inc. phone systems in Anne Arundel middle and high schools.
Community colleges and local governments throughout Maryland also will be able to order equipment under the agreement.
The contract is for two years, with options for a third and fourth year.
TCS spokeswoman Kathy McGinty Dunn said the deal would allow the schools and other government agencies to order telecommunications equipment as needed, rather than going through a long procurement process.
"It saves a lot of time and effort for the agency that wants to buy," she said.
Privately owned TCS has 234 employees, including 140 in Maryland. The company had $27.8 million in revenue last year.
Anne Arundel awarded a contract for its elementary school phone systems to Lucent in October, said Bill Hubbard, the district's lead buyer.
