Blue Jays: Announced that they will recall P Carlos Almanzar from Triple-A Syracuse today.

Braves: Placed IF Rafael Belliard on 15-day disabled list. Recalled IF Ray Holbert from Triple-A Richmond.

Cardinals: Activated P Jeff Brantley. Designated IF David Bell for assignment.

Devil Rays: Placed OF Mike Kelly (groin strain) on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 1. Purchased contract of former Orioles OF Jerome Walton from Triple-A Durham. Transferred IF Herbert Perry from 15-day to 60-day DL.

Dodgers: Signed P Brad Clontz.

Padres: Purchased contract of P Carlos Reyes from Triple-A Las Vegas. Assigned P Buddy Carlyle to Double-A Mobile.

Pirates: Placed P Elmer Dessens on 15-day DL. Recalled P Mike Williams from Triple-A Nashville.

Hartford: Extended contract of men's basketball coach Paul Brazeau through 2001.

NFL Management Council: Upheld RB Curtis Martin's disputed contract with Jets.

Bengals: Agreed to three-year contract with QB Chad May.

Cardinals: Signed free-agent S Van Malone, who had been with Lions.

Eagles: Agreed to two-year contract with unrestricted free-agent LB Mike Caldwell, a former Raven who spent last season with Cardinals. Signed FB Jeff Cothran, S John Fisher and WR Karl Hankton.

Jets: Signed CB Otis Smith to three-year contract.

Packers: Gave coach Mike Holmgren contract clause enabling him to leave after 1998 season if he gets chance to become coach and GM of another NFL team.

Redskins: Matched Vikings' offer to restricted free-agent CB Darryl Pounds; re-signed him to two-year contract.

Hockey

Oilers: Sent D Craig Miller to AHL Hamilton.
