Nelson scores 5, UM women rout Vanderbilt, 16-4

COLLEGE PARK -- Cathy Nelson scored a career-high five goals to lead Maryland to a 16-4 win over Vanderbilt yesterday in women's lacrosse at Ludwig Field.

Christie Jenkins contributed three goals and Sascha Newmarch had four assists for the Terps (6-2), who outshot the Commodores, 38-18.

Vanderbilt got as close as 2-1 midway through the first half before Maryland scored eight of the next nine goals for a 10-2 lead at halftime. Maryland then scored the first three goals of the second half, including two by Nelson.
