At the Crofton swimming pool, a sign of the summer to come

ROBINS, DAFFODILS, cherry blossoms and baseball are classic signs of spring. The other day, I saw another sign that summer isn't far away.

At the Crofton Swim and Tennis Club, the courts were full of tennis players taking advantage of the great weather. Over by the pool, two little girls stood together, faces pressed tightly against the fence, looking in. For the longest time they stood there, unmoving, conjuring up long hours at the pool, swimming, diving and playing with friends.

The pool won't be open until late May, but those girls already are counting the days.

Spaghetti for dinner

The weather has been so beautiful that it would be a shame to spend Saturday afternoon in the kitchen cooking. So, this Saturday, let the parishioners of Trinity United Methodist Church cook for you.

The church will hold its spaghetti supper from 3: 30 to 6: 30 p.m. at the church center, 956 Patuxent Road in the Odenton #F community of Woodwardville. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 11. Children under 6 will be served free.

If you are new to the area, you will enjoy the ride. Turn west on Patuxent Road at the Route 3-Route 424 traffic light (near Giant). Travel a few miles through the countryside and you'll be in Woodwardville.

Sarah's Run is April 25

All runners and walkers will receive a T-shirt and will be eligible for prize drawings. An after-the-race party will feature food, drinks and music.

Packet pickup and race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. at Marley Station parking lot behind J.C. Penny. The average stay at Sarah's House is two to 12 weeks and includes counseling, building work skills and child care.
