Students win 30 awards at career conference 2 from Westminster High elected to state offices at meeting in Hagerstown

Westminster High School marketing students walked away with 30 awards and two state Distributive Educational Clubs of America (DECA) offices recently at the annual Maryland State DECA Career Development Conference in Hagerstown.

Sean Javins was elected state DECA vice president, and Sarah Brumfitt was chosen state reporter for the 1998-1999 school year.

Four students will go to the National DECA Career Development Conference from April 24 to 29 in Denver.

They are Sean Javins in the vehicles and petroleum marketing series event, Scott Deans in retail merchandising management level series event, Courtney Smith in retail merchandising associate level series event and Sarah Brumfitt in intense state office leadership development workshop.

Other winners and their events are:

Joshua Acampa, finalist in free enterprise economics written test.

Ryan Angell, second place and finalist in service marketing management level series event, third place in marketing concepts written test.

Sarah Brumfitt, finalist in retail merchandising management level series event.

Scott Deans, a first place and three second places in retail merchandising, associate level event, second place in sales demonstration and finalist in job interview.

Bryon Dorr, two first places and a third place in marketing management level series event, finalist in merchandise decision making team event, first place in marketing concepts written test, and second place in free enterprise economics written test.

Carrie Gordon, finalist in travel and tourism marketing management team series event.

Sean Javins, four first places in vehicles and petroleum marketing series event, first place in free enterprise economics written test, finalist in merchandise decision making team event.

Courtney Smith, two first places in retail merchandising associate level series event, third place in free enterprise economics written test, finalist in marketing concepts written test.

Durand Lee, third place in retail merchandising associate level series event, finalist in sales demonstration.

Katie Sciukas, finalist in travel and tourism marketing management teams series event, merchandise decision making team event and merchandising price judging.
