THEY CAME, they saw, they petted.

On Tuesday, the Savage library welcomed two visiting lambs, to the delight of neighborhood children.

The library staff invited Betty Roth and her daughter, Chava, to the library with two lambs from their Eldersburg farm, Symphony Hill.

More than 260 children and adults came to meet Genevieve and Colleen -- the two 80-pound lambs. The animals are Rambouillet lambs, a breed known for its fine wool and docility.

All those attending got to pet the lambs, who didn't seem to object.

The Roths also brought along a spinning wheel and carding comb, to demonstrate how wool is turned into thread.

They had a huge bag of loose fleece, so that participants could take home a handful of new wool as a reminder of an introduction to spring.
