Assault on pregnant woman draws 2-year prison term

March 25, 1998

A Westminster man was sentenced yesterday to two years in prison for knocking down a pregnant woman in July.

Roger C. Brooks Jr., 25, of the 800 block of Crows Court pleaded not guilty to the charge of second-degree assault in January, but was found guilty.

Carroll Circuit Judge Raymond E. Beck Sr. ordered that Brooks' two-year term be served consecutive to his current sentence. Brooks was given a six-month sentence in March for slapping a different woman.

Court records show Brooks has three additional charges pending. They involve an alleged violation of a temporary protective order and allegations of third-degree burglary and theft under $300 in August.

Pleasant Valley: Firefighters from Westminster, Lineboro and Littlestown, Pa., assisted Pleasant Valley at 7: 52 p.m. Monday, responding to a house fire in the 2000 block of Stone Road. Units were out two hours and 40 minutes.
