Man is stabbed with pocketknife after women argue in Annapolis Mall

An argument between two women at the food court of Annapolis Mall on Saturday night spilled into the parking lot, where a man who police believe was linked to one of the women was stabbed several times with a pocketknife, Anne Arundel County police said yesterday. The man, who was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center as a precaution, was in good condition with stab wounds in the shoulder and back, said police spokeswoman Lisa Ritter.

The argument erupted shortly before 10 p.m. in the food court, and a mall security guard asked both women to leave. Police were called when a group of people who knew both women continued the dispute in the parking lot, said Anne Marie Logan, marketing director for Annapolis Mall.

Such incidents are rare at the mall, even though "it's quite a large gathering area, particularly for teens and young adults, so there are occasionally little pushing matches," Ritter said.

One of the women was taken into custody, police said, but no further information was released.
