Tutors needed

Area schools and literacy programs use volunteers to help children or adults improve reading skills. Among those in need are:

St. Jerome's Head Start, 765 W. Hamburg St., Baltimore, for a program teaching reading and math to elementary school students. Volunteers are needed from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Contact: Mary Gunning, 410-837-6870.

Uplift Reading Center, 1634 Guilford Ave., Baltimore, to assist students ages 12 to 18 in reading and computer skills. Volunteers are needed from 3: 30 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Contact: Salah Fatah, 410-333-6777 or 410-333-3560.
