Towson Catholic stops Bishop Walsh in Alhambra Owls face Arch. Carroll in consolation game today

FROSTBURG -- Towson Catholic had too much for Cumberland's Bishop Walsh, advancing yesterday to the consolation championship game of the 38th Alhambra Tournament with a 74-40 win at Frostburg State University.

Towson Catholic will play Archbishop Carroll (D.C.) at 4: 45 p.m. today.

The Owls (25-10) were led by Todd Sykes, who scored 14 points, nine in the first quarter when the Owls jumped to a 12-6 lead. Sykes also blocked four shots.

Steven Johnson scored 13 points, and Keith Jenifer added 12 and Lafonte Johnson 11. Thabo Letsebe led Towson on the boards with seven rebounds, and Lafonte Johnson had eight assists.

Towson Catholic led 33-18 at the half and opened it to 42-21 when Steven Johnson made two free-throws with 5: 19 left in the third quarter. Letsebe's basket at 1: 17 in the third gave the Owls their first 30-point lead at 53-23.

BISHOP WALSH -- Rowan 6, Guerin 8, Jessie 11, Blanco 3, Serpone 2, Skidmore 2, Meyers 8. Totals 17 3-8 40.

TOWSON CATHOLIC -- Jenifer 12, L.Johnson 11, S.Johnson 13, Sykes 14, Early 9, Cornell 8, Griffin 3, Letsebe 4. Totals 30 11-18 74. Half: TC, 33-18.
