Celebrate Maryland's 364th birthday with a festival and a party Saturday and Sunday in Historic St. Mary's City, Maryland's first capital. Saturday's festival includes pageantry, music, a militia muster by the St. Mary's City Militia, horse-drawn wagon ride and archaeological excavations. The official birthday commemoration will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the colorful Ceremony of the Flags, featuring fourth-graders from Baltimore City and every Maryland county, the opening of the "Colonial Capitals of the Chesapeake: Jamestown and St. Mary's City" and a 1992 St. Mary's City excavation, "Project Lead Coffins: The Search for Maryland's Founders."

The celebration takes place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Historic St. Mary's City is off Route 5 on Rosecroft Road in Southern Maryland. For more information on the "Colonial Capital" exhibit, call 301-862-0990 or 800-SMC-1634. Admission is free and a parking donation of $3 is suggested.

Enrich your weekend by experiencing some of the finest handmade art and crafts and performing art at the 16th Annual Pennsylvania National Arts & Crafts Show tomorrow Saturday and Sunday at the State Farm Complex in Harrisburg. The show will include more than 275 artists and craftsman from more than 35 states. Featured exhibitions include clay artists Bobbi Bassett, paper bead artisans Louisa and Yongwoo Kim, folk music composer Jay Smar and new age/jazz pianist Bob Barry.

Hours for the show are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The State Farm Complex is on Cameron Street and McClay Street in Harrisburg, Pa. Admission is $5; $4 seniors and ages 6-12; free for children under 6. For more information, call 717-796-0531.
