Boat beat: The Whitbread fleet is experiencing more wind than had been forecast. Teams are sailing in great heat with their spinnakers up, as each encounters its own ecosystem. At the front of the fleet are Innovation Kvaerner, Chessie Racing and Toshiba, trading places constantly.

Weather: A strong low around 35S/30W moves SE. Another front that produced a southerly flow passed the fleet last night and stalled out. The fleet must cross the frontal zone with shifting winds heading N/NE.
