Flora Mae Watkins, a former postmaster from West Virginia who lived in Baltimore for many years, died of cancer at her Northeast Baltimore home Feb. 2. She was 83.

Mrs. Watkins was a native of Wolfe, W.Va., where she was the town's postmaster for 25 years. She attended local schools and Bluefield State College in West Virginia for two years.

At Community Methodist Church in Pocahontas, Va., she was church pianist, superintendent of the Sunday school and member of the Women's Society of Christian Service.

After she moved to Baltimore, she became a member of Epworth United Methodist Chapel, where services were held last month.

Her husband, Earl S. Watkins, whom she married in 1935, died in 1991.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Cunningham and Josephine H. Farrell, both of Baltimore; a sister, Dorothy Wright of Beckley, W.Va.; a brother, Edward Jordan of Abingdon, Va.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
