Johns Hopkins (23-4)

vs. Bates (22-3)

Round: Northeast Regional semifinals

Site: Hill Gym, University of Southern Maine, Gorham, Maine

Time: 6 p.m.

Outlook: The Blue Jays, who were the top-ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic region during the season, are making their third Sweet 16 appearance in four years against a team they've never met. Hopkins advanced with Saturday's 68-44 win over Muhlenberg, which avenged its loss in the Centennial Conference title game. Last season, the Blue Jays defeated Western Connecticut State in the regional semifinals before bowing to Scranton in the regional final. Bates, which received a first-round bye as the No. 2-ranked team in the New England region, moved on in the playoffs and stretched its winning streak to 10 games by defeating Western Connecticut, 79-62, in the second round. Hopkins is led by seniors Julie Anderson and Angie Arnold. Anderson is Hopkins' all-time leading scorer (1,898 points) and rebounder (1,347) and Arnold is second in both categories.
