BCCC women win Region XX, gain nationals

Baltimore City CC went on a 10-0 run with 13 minutes left to take control of the game en route to a 77-61 victory over Potomac State College of West Virginia yesterday in the women's Region XX tournament final.

Dashann Coleman made five three-pointers in the second half en route to her game-high 26 points and added five rebounds and three assists for BCCC.

Emily Jones had 14 points with 11 rebounds and Scherry Cofield contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Red Devils (27-5).

Takia Barnes scored 20 to pace Potomac State.

The win sends BCCC to the National JuCo Division II tournament, which starts March 17. It marks the Red Devils' second trip to the tournament in three years.

POTOMAC STATE COLLEGE -- Fleak 9, Furey 16, Barnes 20, Jackson 4, Sampson 4, Jordan 8. Totals 19 16-21 61.

BALTIMORE CITY CC -- Coleman 26, Pone 11, Jones 14, Howard 8, Cofield 13, Conely 5. Totals 27 15-26 77.

Halftime--PSCC, 36-29.
