Columbia Bank celebrates anniversary with new logo

The Columbia Bank has adopted a new corporate logo to be used through 1998 in celebration of its 10th anniversary.

The logo features the caption "Celebrating a Decade of Community Service," which temporarily replaces the slogan "You're Among Friends."

The logo will be incorporated into all of the bank's marketing materials.

The bank announced earnings of more than $4.1 million in 1997, or $1.82 per share, and assets of more than $373 million.

The Columbia Bank, a subsidiary of Columbia Bancorp, is a full-service commercial bank with thirteen locations that has its headquarters in Howard County.

Paragon Computer Services Inc., a technology consulting firm based in Ellicott City, has been selected to provide services for the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in Silver Spring.

Paragon will assist in the development of an information system plan, provide a systems and network upgrade and implement business and applications software. The company's technical consultants will also provide training and support.

Sisters of Mercy, a religious order founded in 1831 in Ireland, includes 6,200 sisters and 1,400 associates.


Linda Kelbaugh, an employee of Brightwater Inc. and former director of the Environmental Programs Division of the Maryland State Highway Administration, has been appointed president and chief operating officer for the environmental consulting company. As director of environmental programs for SHA, Kelbaugh negotiated contracts and managed environmental mitigation projects. Brightwater Inc., based in Ellicott City, provides environmental consulting services, specializing in stream restoration, wetland delineation and mitigation and permit negotiation.

Wendy Miceli, an Ellicott City resident, recently joined the staff of Metzler's Garden Center, 10342 Owen Brown Road, Columbia. She will assist the owner with advertising and marketing, provide sketches for landscaping projects, and direct the nursery's water-gardening department and spring and summer flowering bulb sales.
