Duke women surprise No. 1 Maryland, 10-6

Tricia Martin scored four goals and Courtney Rodgers added three and an assist as Duke stunned top-ranked and three-time defending champion Maryland, 10-6, last night in women's lacrosse in Durham, N.C.

It was the Blue Devils' first Atlantic Coast Conference victory in school history.

Martin had two goals in the first half as Duke streaked to a 7-3 lead by halftime. After the Blue Devils (2-0) opened the second half with a goal, the Terps (0-1), who had a 17-13 edge in ground balls, got no closer than three goals.

Duke goalkeeper Shannon Chaney made 10 of her 12 saves in the second half.
